Safariland’s new HOLLE (Hole Optimized Lightweight Load-carry Equipment) belt system is an improvement on the MOLLE system for duty belts. MOLLE belts were designed for the military and are not optimal for law enforcement. Safariland wanted a belt system with the modularity of a MOLLE that addresses some of its shortcomings in an LE environment.

First, HOLLE is available in a more leather/nylon look to suit the typical, traditional image many police departments prefer. Secondly, the cumbersome strap threading has been eliminated. Now, pouches and accessories are screwed in and hard-mounted to the belt, which has the added benefit of not having straps to interfere with the Velcro of the inner belt.
Finally, magazine pouches can be canted out away from the body to allow better access when body armor is used. This system is going to be a great new option for LE officers.
Ballast Holster
The Ballast, Safariland’s most advanced duty holster, was introduced last year, but the company is still adding more pistol and light fits, including more Smith & Wesson, Staccato, and Glock models.

The Ballast is available in retention level 1, 2, 3, or 4 using the company’s AOS, ALS, or SLS designs. Manipulations and draw are the same as on previous models, but there’s a new trigger ingress guard to prevent small objects from entering the trigger guard. It’s not uncommon for sticks, clothing, or fingers to enter the trigger well, which could potentially cause a unintentional discharge. The new guard is a welcome safety feature.
The holster is also compatible with Axon’s signal sensor, which will automatically activate the wearer’s body worn camera when the pistol is drawn. Ballast holsters are available now.
