SHOT Show always has a few surprises up its sleeve, and on our first day strolling the show floor this week, we came across an unexpected product that turned out to be one of our coolest finds of the event.

Drone Round, just as it sounds, is ammunition for shooting drones. Shotguns are typically most effective on drones, but that requires carrying a shotgun in the battlefield or wherever you might encounter hostile drones. Shotguns tend to kick, have limited capacities, and don’t reach as far as an AR or other battle rifle, so Freedom Munitions came up with a solution.

Drone Round can be shot from any rifle with no modifications to the firearm, and it works with suppressors, too. The company’s testing showed no difference in wear to the firearm or suppressor than shooting regular rifle rounds. The rounds can achieve a roughly 30-inch spread at 100 meters. They’re available in two variants, K and L, for shorter and longer ranges.

For now, Drone Round is available only to the military and law enforcement market, but the company has a contact form on its website where you can let them know you’re interested in commercial sales.
