ZEV is Shipping the FDP 9mm Folding Defensive Platform
An almost mythical compact, foldable firearm engineered for rapid deployment and superior performance is real and now shipping.
ZEV and Magpul teamed up in 2021 to make the then-named FMG-9 concept gun a reality, and, after five hard years of blood, sweat, and tears, the now FDP, or Folding Defensive Platform, is in the wild – selling out in minutes when it went live last week.
It's a story we have been following for years, and even took a trip to Wyoming in 2024 to help put pallets of ammo (something like 18,000 rounds) through pre-production models for testing.
The FDP will be sold in two variants: an NFA-rules-apply FDP-C Carbine and a more over-the-counter FDP-P pistol, with an MSRP of $1,699 for each model. Threaded barrel models will be available for $50 more.

And it is not a gimmick gun, being very capable, as seen zapping reduced IPSC plates at 200 yards. Sure, you have to isolate, concentrate, and work on your holdover, but there were more "pings" than not.
The time for the carbine variant could never have been better, as the tax stamp for the factory SBR has recently zeroed out. Of course, that puts it out of bounds for some in more restrictive states – but there is always the pistol model, which is slated to start shipping later this year.
